Android Auto Update: Google has unveiled an upcoming update for Android for Cars during its Google I/O 2024 event. This upcoming update will bring new features that enhance entertainment and connectivity but also raise concerns about distractions while driving.

Vehicles equipped with built-in Google such as Polestar, Volvo and Renault will receive a range of new entertainment apps like Max and Peacock. Additionally, the popular game Angry Birds will be available for users looking for some gaming fun. However, it's worth noting that these entertainment options, including video streaming and gaming, are only accessible when the car is parked.

A significant addition is the introduction of Google Cast to cars with Android Automotive OS. This feature will enable users to stream content from their phones and tablets directly to their car's display. Initially, Rivian models will be the first to receive this update, with more manufacturers expected to follow suit.

Google is also introducing new developer tools aimed at simplifying the creation of apps and experiences for Android Auto. Moreover, they have launched a program to facilitate the conversion of existing mobile apps into car-compatible versions, making it easier for users to adapt their applications for use in vehicles. 

Android Automotive OS has become a standard choice for car-based operating systems, with over 200 million compatible vehicles on the road. Recent updates to the OS have introduced features like instant EV battery level checks and the ability to make Zoom calls while driving, showcasing Google's commitment to enhancing the driving experience through technology.
