Bengaluru Traffic Police: In a unique move that integrates AI (artificial intelligence) into public safety systems, Bengaluru Traffic Police, in collaboration with Cars24 and CrashFree India, has installed an AI-powered billboard at Trinity Circle, one of the city's busiest junctions. This billboard, believed to be India's first, scans vehicle registration number plates (from about 100 metres away) with the help of an AI-enabled camera. It then double-checks those details with the government's VAHAN database to track drivers with any traffic violations. If found in violation of traffic rules, the billboard will flash details of your car's violations on the LED screen.
Bengaluru Traffic Challans Billboard: What Kind of Violations Will be Displayed?
The newly installed digital billboard displays details of pending e-challans, expired insurance, or lapsed PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificates, ensuring that motorists passing through the junction take a view of it. Having said that, those vehicles found fully compliant will be duly acknowledged, reinforcing responsible road behaviour.
Bengaluru Traffic Challans Billboard: Commuters' Reaction
The latest initiative had social media divided, with some hailing it as a 'bold deterrent' and others questioning its effectiveness in reforming drivers' behaviour. On the streets, the pilot project led one of the commuters to remark: 'This feels like going back to school. When your name got called out in class, you paid attention. Now, when your challan shows up on that giant screen, you know you can’t escape it.'
Bengaluru Traffic Challans Billboard: It's About Public Awareness
The installation at Trinity Circle is not about publicly shaming motorists or prodding them to pay fines; it's about awareness, according to a senior official from Bengaluru Traffic Police. 'Discipline starts with visibility. If this board helps even a fraction of drivers become more responsible, it’s a win for the city.'

The latest initiative by Cars24, in collaboration with CrashFree India and Bengaluru Traffic Police, comes as a direct response to the increasing number of traffic violations in the city. Last year, Bengaluru alone accounted for 82.9 lakh violations. The newly launched programme is currently in an experimental stage. If successful, it could be scaled to other high-density junctions across major Indian cities.
