BYD Plug-In Hybrid SUV:  BYD India, a subsidiary of the Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD, will launch its first plug-in Hybrid SUV with DMi technology in India tomorrow. The brand had shared a teaser of its DMi hybrid tech on its official social media page, and the launch of its first plug-in hybrid SUV is much-awaited ever since. Let’s take a look at what the BYD DMi hybrid tech is and what can be expected from the upcoming SUV.

BYD DMi Hybrid Tech Explained

The BYD DMi (dual-mode intelligent) is a plug-in hybrid technology developed by the brand. The system uses a highly efficient fuel engine as a generator, which powers electric motors. The special hybrid technology by BYD revolves around four primary driving modes: EV Mode, Series Mode, Parallel Mode, and Engine Direct Drive mode. In EV Mode, the vehicle runs solely on electric power. In series mode, the vehicle uses the power from the engine to spin the generator and power the electric motors, and it also recharges the battery. In parallel mode, the vehicle uses power from both the electric motor and engine to provide maximum acceleration. In engine direct drive mode, the vehicle uses a clutch to engage the gas engine directly to the wheels, and provides maximum efficiency.
