The scenario of Infotainment in cars witnessed a huge change after Google launched the Android Auto software allowing users to connect their Android smartphones to their car's infotainment systems. Android Auto is designed to simplify the use of various smartphone functions while driving. It provides access to features like navigation, music, phone calls, messaging and voice commands. Android Auto also allows you to make and receive calls and access your contacts, which helps in reducing distractions while driving.
Now, Google has rolled out the Android Auto 10.5 beta, offering enhanced app support and more amazing features. This update will now support apps like Amazon Prime Video, Zoom, WebEx, Weather Updates and more. Let's take a look at what new features have been added to Android Auto with this update.
Vivaldi Web Browser
Introducing Vivaldi, a new Chromium-based internet browser for cars. It is available as a standalone app on Google Play, allowing users to browse the web using their vehicle's infotainment system with ease and convenience.
Audio Meetings on Zoom
Additionally, Android Auto now offers support for web conferencing applications such as WebEx and Zoom. This allows users to attend audio-only meetings while driving, simplifying the process of joining scheduled meetings and calls directly from their car display, and reducing the reliance on their smartphones.
Prime Video
Moreover, Prime Video is now accessible via Google Play for specific car brands like Renault and Volvo, with other brands expected to join soon. However, Google has made it clear that both the Prime Video app and the Vivaldi browser will only operate when the car is stationary.
Weather App
Google is expanding its offerings by making the Weather Channel app accessible for download on Google Play, specifically for cars equipped with Google Built-In. This app delivers real-time weather updates, hourly forecasts, and radar information, ensuring drivers stay well-informed about weather conditions throughout their travels.
Digital Car Key
Furthermore, Google is offering digital car key support, enabling users to use their smartphones to unlock, lock, and start their vehicles. This digital key can also be easily shared with family and friends wirelessly, and it's compatible with both Android and iOS devices. Initially launched in select European countries, this feature is now being introduced to certain Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia models in the United States, Canada, and Korea.
