Vehicle Fitness Test Fees Hiked: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has hiked the vehicle fitness test fees, effective immediately. The government has made amendments to the Central Motor Vehicle Act, and significant changes have been made to the fee structure, based on the age and category of vehicles.
Age Limit Revised
Among all the other changes, the government has also revised the age limit for higher fitness test fees. Earlier, the higher fitness test fees were applicable to vehicles older than 15 years, but now the government has introduced higher fees for vehicles that have completed 10 years. The government has also introduced three different age categories for the vehicle fitness test. The first one is for vehicles with 10-15 years of age, the second one for Vehicles with 15-20 years of age, and the third one is for vehicles older than 20 years. The vehicle fitness test fees will increase consecutively depending on the category.

Heavy commercial vehicles older than 20 years, such as buses and trucks, will now incur a fee of 25,000, which used to be Rs 2500 earlier. Medium commercial vehicles with more than 20 years of age will now be charged Rs 20,000, while earlier the fee was Rs 1800. Two-wheelers older than 20 years will now have to pay Rs 2000 for a vehicle fitness test, whereas the three-wheelers of the same age will now be charged Rs 7000. The LMVs will have to pay a charge of Rs 15,000 to get their fitness certificate.
