South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia has big plans to become a major player in the global electric car market. Its latest addition, the Kia EV3, is set to be unveiled globally on May 23. Ahead of its debut, Kia has released teasers to give us a sneak peek at its upcoming electric SUV.
Recently, Kia introduced the EV3 and EV4 concepts, showcasing their vision for electric vehicles. The EV3 is an electric SUV, while the EV4 is a crossover electric sedan-style vehicle. The production version of the EV3 has been teased by Kia for the first time, hinting at its imminent launch. When it hits the market, the EV3 will sit below the Kia EV6 in the brand’s electric lineup.
The teaser images highlight the EV3's bold, geometric and robust exterior design. The vehicle features boxy rear fenders, a distinctive tailgate and signature Star Map lighting. Compared to the concept, the production-spec EV3 gets slightly redesigned LED headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs) at the front. The rear design appears to be carried over from the concept. Kia is integrating innovative technologies into the EV3 to offer affordable options for the masses. The interior is expected to feature eco-conscious elements and a minimal design theme similar to the EV6.
In terms of powertrain, the EV3 is anticipated to be equipped with a 150 bhp motor powered by a 40 kWh to 45 kWh battery pack, offering a range of around 400 km to 500 km on a single charge.
The upcoming Kia EV3 will be positioned as a compact SUV, likely slightly larger than the Sonet but smaller than the Seltos, measuring around 4.2 metres in length, similar to the Mahindra XUV400. This size suggests relatively affordable pricing, contributing to a faster transition to electric vehicles and enhancing Kia's reputation as an electric car manufacturer in the world.
