Maruti Suzuki, a leading automobile manufacturer in India has revealed plans to launch a small MPV in 2026 for the Indian market. This small MPV will be based on the Suzuki Spacia and it has been codenamed YDB. This compact three-row MPV will be positioned below the Maruti Ertiga and compete with the Renault Triber. The Indian variant will have changes to suit local preferences while maintaining its sub-four-metre size. It might be longer than the Japanese model, offering more space for seven people. Additionally, to make it affordable, sliding doors might not be utilised in this compact MPV but the boxy shape will be retained, focusing on making the inside roomy.

The mini MPV is expected to have a well-thought-out three-row cabin, made specifically for Indian customers. It will be bigger than the Spacia as the main goal is to make the cabin as spacious as possible. We're not sure if the Indian variant will have the ottoman-like extensions on the back seats, similar to the Spacia. Additionally, due its increased cabin space, it is also likely that the compact MPV will boast additional features.

In Maruti Suzuki India’s vehicle line-up, the new mini MPV will be positioned below the existing MPVs like Ertiga and XL6. This mini MPV has been designed as a more family oriented car, specifically for those who are looking for a budget-friendly and spacious vehicle. Additionally, it is also likely that Maruti Suzuki India will be retailing this compact MPV model through its premium Nexa dealerships.

In Japan, the Suzuki Spacia is a small 'Kei' car with a 660cc engine. However, the Indian variant of the MPV is likely to have a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series engine, the one being used in the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift. The 1.2-litre engine can produce a power output of 82 bhp and 108 Nm of torque. This engine can be coupled with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic.
