McLaren First SUV: UK-based supercar manufacturer McLaren is preparing to shake up the SUV segment with its first-ever performance SUV, internally codenamed P47. This move is part of the brand's strategy to diversify beyond its two-door sports cars, aiming to attract a broader customer base. Although it has yet to be officially announced, the McLaren performance is poised to make its global debut in 2028 with a hybrid V8 powertrain setup, according to a market report.

McLaren First SUV: 5-Seat Hybrid Similar to Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT

Citing attendees at the recently held global dealer meeting at the McLaren Creation Centre in Bicester, England, the upcoming McLaren SUV is a five-seat hybrid, with overall dimensions comparable to those of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. The company officials reportedly showcased the clay model with 24-inch wheels at the meeting. One of the attendees described the SUV as 'sculpted and muscular'. 'It has presence and won’t get lost in the exotic SUV segment,' the attendee added.

McLaren First SUV: What to Expect?

Whether McLaren goes ahead with the production version of the SUV remains to be seen; however, CEO Nick Collins had hinted at this shift earlier this year when he disclosed McLaren's plans to introduce a vehicle with 'more than two seats'.

If the plan materialises, expect the upcoming SUV to follow the company's new design language, as was teased last year. Expected design bits include a split headlamp setup, a hood scoop, a swooping shoulder line, and a large rear spoiler. The model could feature wraparound cockpits, similar to F1 cars. Platform details are also under wraps, but the carbon monocoque chassis is highly unlikely.

McLaren First SUV: India Launch on the Cards?

It is unclear whether the brand will bring the SUV to the Indian market. Nevertheless, considering the country's expanding luxury SUV segment, driven by the Aston Martin DBX, the Lamborghini Urus and the Ferrari Purosangue, McLaren's SUV could find a place for itself.
