Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team has unveiled the livery of its 2024 Formula 1 car, which is being referred to as the W15. The W15 features a striking new black and silver livery which stands out among other livery reveals in 2024 as most F1 teams have been mainly sticking to the exposed carbon fibre look which results in black liveries for their cars. Exposed carbon fibre has become a prominent trend across the liveries revealed this year. The idea is that by using minimal paint, weight can be saved and redirected towards further optimising parts that enhance performance.

After dominating the F1 grid for several years, Mercedes faced challenges adapting to the new 2022 rules. Early in 2023, the team followed a similar concept before shifting its focus to a new approach, resulting in significant changes for the W15. These include a new chassis and gearbox casing. Technical director James Allison highlighted a major focus on improving the unpredictability of the previous car's rear axle. He further added that, “We have worked hard to ensure that both axles, particularly the rear, retain better control of the tyre than on the W14. There’s also been some housekeeping on areas in which we had room for improvement, including the DRS effect and pit stop performance.”
At the launch of W15 livery, Toto Wolff, Team Principal, Mercedes AMG Petronas said, “I believe the previous two years were necessary for us to readjust, recalibrate and reinvent ourselves in certain areas. That root-and-branch approach is never easy. But we’ve made progress and look forward to taking the next step with the W15. It won’t be a linear path, but when we stumble, we will get back up and keep climbing.”
