India's Bestselling Car 2025: The year 2025 has finally come to an end. It was quite a rollercoaster ride for the domestic market as newer models further increased the competition, new GST rules pushed the demand for sales to a whole new level, and demand for hybrid cars, along with safer cars, registered an increase. While 2025 began with Maruti Wagon R and Fronx taking the top spot, it ended with Tata Nexon securing the top position for three consecutive months. But do you know which was the bestselling car in India in 2025?
Maruti Suzuki Dzire-India’s Bestselling Car In 2025
Yes, you heard it right. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has secured the top-position as the bestselling car of India in 2025. This comes as a surprise, as a ‘sedan’ secured the top-position in the country, at a time when the SUV wave is really strong. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire didn’t just secure the top-position as India’s bestselling car in 2025, but it is also the only sedan in the ‘Top-10 bestselling cars in India in 2025.’

Has The ‘SUV Wave’ Ended?
No, absolutely not. The ongoing SUV wave in India has not ended. In fact, it has grown stronger than before. While the Tata Punch secured the top-position as India’s bestselling car in 2024, only 5 SUVs— the Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio, and Tata Nexon—made it to the top-10 bestselling cars. However, in 2025, a total of 6 SUVs— the Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and the Tata Punch—made it to the top-10 bestselling cars of 2025. In a year that registered a higher demand for passenger cars, the data tells us that SUVs’ share in the market has grown. But that also leaves us with a question—How did the Maruti Suzuki Dzire become India’s bestselling car for 2025 then?

What Made Maruti Dzire-India’s Bestselling Car?
Currently, the Dzire is being sold in its fourth-generation guise in the domestic market, which was launched in 2024. The current generation of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire isn’t just a more futuristic sedan; it is also a safer one with a 5-star Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) rating. Over the years, the Dzire has also registered popularity among Indian families, and it is also immensely popular in its Tour S guise amongst the fleet operators. The mileage for the petrol manual trims stands at 24.79 km/l, 25.71 km/l for the petrol automatic trims, and 33.73 km/kg for CNG trims. The new GST rates introduced by the government reduced the price of the sedan further, making it an ideal choice for many people. All of these reasons helped the Maruti Suzuki Dzire to become India’s bestselling car in 2025.
