The Maruti Suzuki Dzire didn’t just secure the top-position as India’s bestselling car in 2025, but it is also the only sedan in the ‘Top-10 bestselling cars in India in 2025.’

Has The ‘SUV Wave’ Ended?

No, absolutely not. The ongoing SUV wave in India has not ended. In fact, it has grown stronger than before. While the Tata Punch secured the top-position as India’s bestselling car in 2024, only 5 SUVs— the Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio, and Tata Nexon—made it to the top-10 bestselling cars. However, in 2025, a total of 6 SUVs— the Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and the Tata Punch—made it to the top-10 bestselling cars of 2025. In a year that registered a higher demand for passenger cars, the data tells us that SUVs’ share in the market has grown. The new GST rates introduced by the government reduced the price of the sedan further, making it an ideal choice for many people.
