Tata Altroz EV: Tata Motors currently dominates the EV segment of the automobile market of India with the most electric models by any manufacturer. Tata Motors recently launched the Punch EV for the Indian market and now aims to introduce four more electric models to its lineup by 2025. These new models are anticipated to be the Tata Harrier EV, Tata Altroz EV, Tata Curvv EV and Tata Sierra EV.

Talking about the Altroz EV, Tata unveiled the Altroz EV at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and later at the 2020 Auto Expo. It was anticipated to be one of their initial electric vehicle launches. However, the Altroz EV is set to be launched in India about five years after its initial showcase. Tata faced challenges during the development, particularly regarding the placement of the battery pack under the floor. This placement reduced the ground clearance by approximately 20mm to 145mm. Raising the Altroz to compensate for the clearance loss wasn't considered as it would alter the hatch's stance and give it a crossover appearance.

After this, Tata didn't provide updates on the Altroz EV, instead introduced the Tiago EV and Punch EV. However, during the launch of the Tata Punch EV, Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicles Business, confirmed that the Altroz EV is still in the works and is expected to be launched next year. Chandra also outlined the lineup of upcoming models based on the Acti.ev architecture, mentioning that, “Punch is the first one, Curvv will come next. Harrier will also come by the end of this calendar year. Then we would have Sierra and Altroz coming in 2025.”

Keeping in mind that the Altroz EV and the Punch EV will share the same platform and architecture, it's likely that they will offer similar-sized battery packs - 25kWh and 35kWh. These battery packs are expected to deliver a similar driving range between 315 km to 421 km. The motor outputs for the Altroz EV are expected to be in the range of 82 bhp to 122 bhp, similar to the Punch EV.
