Toyota Hilux EV 2026: At the Thailand Motor Expo 2025, Toyota unveiled its new-generation Hilux pickup truck with all-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The new Toyota Hilux, now in its ninth generation, will also add a hydrogen-powered variant, which is set to arrive in 2028. While the new Toyota Hilux EV will hit international showrooms in December 2025, there's no official confirmation from the brand on the model's India launch. Market reports suggest a 2026-2027 launch timeline. The brand will roll out the mild-hybrid diesel version worldwide in 2026.
Toyota Hilux 2026: EV Gets AWD Setup
For the first time, the new Hilux is offered in an EV guise. Under the hood, the all-electric pickup truck features a 59.2kWh battery pack paired to a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. Although the power figure is awaited, front and rear eAxles claim 205Nm and 267Nm, respectively. This enables the new Hilux EV to carry up to 715kg of payload, and Toyota claims a maximum towing capacity of 1,600kg. As for the range output, the battery yields a WLTP-certified figure of approximately 240 kilometres (claimed).

Having said that, other powertrain options – 2.8-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol, both with a mild-hybrid system – continue. The ICE setups claim a towing capacity of 3,500kg and a payload capacity of around 1,000kg. A 700mm water-wading capacity remains the same, though. For the Indian market, Toyota might offer the mild-hybrid powertrain, which is currently available in the Fortuner Neo Drive.

Inside, the 2026 Hilux gets an all-black cabin theme and a new dashboard layout. The dashboard is headlined by dual 12.3-inch displays and a three-spoke steering wheel with physical controls embedded in it. As a first, the model receives electric power steering, although this feature will be available in select regions. Highlights include powered and ventilated front seats, drive modes, rear USB charging ports, wireless charging, and OTA updates.
Safety-wise, the new Hilux offers an upgraded ADAS suite, including features such as blind spot monitor, low-speed acceleration suppression, proactive driving assist, and an emergency driving stop system. Also present are safe exit Assist, driver monitoring, and a 360-degree camera.
