Bihar News: The Bihar Police on Wednesday rescued 17 girls from Rohtas district, Bihar, after they were lured into unethical work under the guise of an orchestra business. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Bardiha village, under the jurisdiction of Nasriganj police station, said Bikramganj SDPO Sanket Kumar.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Kumar said, “The girls were first sent to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further investigation and recording of statements, and from there, they have been transferred to the Bal Sudhar Grih in Sasaram.”

The police arrested three individuals, Raman Kumar Paswan, Mamata Vishwakarma, and Geeta Kuwar, in connection with the case, while eight other accused are on the run. All arrested individuals are residents of Rohtas district.

A statement from the SP office revealed that the arrested suspects lured girls from other states, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, to Bihar involved them in exploitative activities. Police have launched a probe, and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.

Police Rescue Girls From Sonepur Mela

In a separate incident, the Bihar Police rescued five girls, including one from Nepal, during a late-night raid on theatres at the Sonepur Mela in Bihar after receiving a tip-off about harassment and forced sexual exploitation, news agency PTI reported.

Authorities said that the minors, two from Uttar Pradesh, and one each from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Nepal, were being forced to perform dances in makeshift theatres at the Sonepur Mela, which is promoted as Asia’s largest cattle market.

An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the network.
