Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: The 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections has become one of the most significant political events in the state’s history. Marked by a record overall voter turnout since 1951 (66.91 per cent) and an unprecedented surge in participation by women voters, the trends reveal a fundamental shift in electoral dynamics where the female voters emerged as the single most consequential demographic.

With the counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly elections nearly complete, the numbers clearly signal a historic, landslide victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The final verdict is significantly shaped by critical ground-level factors, particularly centred on women's turnout. Here’s a clear look why the women voters powered the NDA towards the historic victory:

- Rs 10,000 Financial Aid For Women: The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, promising a one-time grant for eligible women served as a powerful catalyst that significantly swung the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections in NDA’s favour. The 2022 caste survey highlighted that 34 percent of the state’s households survive on Rs 6,000 or less. For these vulnerable segments, particularly in Scheduled Caste and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) households, the Rs 10,000 grant for 1.2 crore women, that too before the election, consolidated the trust of women in the ruling alliance.

- Alcohol Ban: Another dominant factor in the NDA’s sweep was the state-wide alcohol ban, which was implemented years ago. For a large section of women voters, the ban is one of the biggest reasons to support the NDA alliance as it is credited with tangible improvements in their quality of life, including a perceived reduction in domestic violence and better household financial management. Despite ongoing challenges with illegal liquor, the idea of the state-wide alcohol ban continues to work strongly in the ruling alliance favour.

- Historic Women Voters Turnout: The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections were defined by women who turned out in historic numbers. The overall turnout hit a record high of 67.13 per cent, but women alone voted at an unprecedented 71.78 per cent, significantly outperforming men (62.98 per cent). In several districts such as Supaul, Kishanganj, and Madhubani, women voted 10-20 percent more than men.

- 1.80 Lakh Jeevika Didis: The record-breaking voter turnout in Bihar, particularly women voters who outshone men (with female turnout at a historic 71.78 per cent versus 62.98 per cent for men), was significantly driven Election Commission’s strategic deployment of thousands of Jeevika Didis. These trusted women networks provided essential information on registration, forms, and polling booths, creating a confident environment for both women and first time voters.

- Higher Women Representation: In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the two main NDA partners, the BJP and JD(U), nominated 13 women each, while the Congress lagged significantly with only 5. With higher women representation in the 2025 Bihar Assembly along with women-centric welfare policies (like the Jeevika Didi network, the alcohol ban, and direct transfers), NDA has gained trust of women voters in the state.
