The seat-sharing pact in Mahagahbandhan is yet to be finalised as, despite consensus on a majority of seats, a few are tempting more than one party.
There are eight seats where more than one nomination has been filed from the Mahagathbandhan allies, which include Congress, Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD), VIP and communist factions.
The nominations were filed as the clarity could not be achieved even after the nomination deadline was near, and thus the constituents of the grand opposition alliance went on with the distribution of symbols to their respective candidates.
On the contentious seats, those vying to contest it gave tickets to their respective candidates and the nominations are filed.
A Congress clash
According to RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan said a total of 71 party candidates filed nominations for the first phase, which is scheduled for polling on November 6.
Similarly, Congress filed nominations on 25 seats, CPI (ML) filed 14 nominations, and VIP filed 6 nominations.
The eight seats where the nominations clashed are Bachhwara, Kahalgaon, Lalganj, Gaura, Bauram, Tarapur, Vaishali, Rajapakar and Rosera.
Among the eight, Bachhwara, Rosera, Raj Pakar, Lalganj and Viashali, seats show a direct confrontation of Congress with the allies.
What's the way ahead?
As the seat-sharing pact could not be finalised till the nomination deadline, there are two ways left for the grand alliance, eyeing to oust the Nitish Kumar-led government. The first is the withdrawal of the nominations if a consensus is reached.
Monday is the last day to withdraw the nominations for the first phase constituencies. Therefore, by Monday, it will be clear whether the alliance will finally reach a consensus or not.
If not, the RJD-led alliance will have the last option to have a friendly contest on the seats with multiple nominations.
