Bihar Election 2025: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to announce the schedule of the much-hyped Bihar assembly elections in the upcoming days. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar is scheduled to visit Bihar this week with his entire team and is expected to take toll of the preparations before making any announcement. The poll body is also considering the festivals, including Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath, before announcing the dates.
The poll body is expected to announce the election schedule between Dussehra (October 2) and Diwali (October 19), keeping in mind the deadline for forming the new assembly by November 22. However, the EC is also likely to consider the Chhath Puja (October 25-28) while announcing the dates. The poll body is currently conducting the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, and the final voter list is scheduled to be published by September 30.
The Election Commission will announce the election dates only after the final voter list is announced, reported Jagran.Com. The poll body had conducted the 2020 assembly election in three phases, and the trend is likely to be continued; however, some reports suggest that the election can also be held in two phases this time.
The poll body has been under fire recently due to the ongoing SIR and allegations of poll rigging by the opposition parties, especially Congress. The opposition parties claimed that the electoral roll revision was being conducted to remove the voters of marginalized sections of the society. However, the Election Commission stated that the revision was conducted to make the electoral process more transparent.
It also asserted that the decision to revise the voter list was under its rights and there was not any violation of rules. While the NDA would contest to repeat its government in Bihar, the opposition will fight to form a government after almost a decade under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav.
