Bihar Election 2025: With just a few weeks remaining in the Bihar Assembly election, the opposition Mahagathbandhan is set to announce its seat-sharing formula in the next few days. Earlier on Monday, the seat sharing was reportedly finalised in a high-profile meeting at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's residence. While the RJD is likely to contest 135 out of the total 243 assembly seats, the second largest party of the alliance, Congress, is expected to contest 55 seats. Apart from this, the three left parties are likely to contest 35 seats, six more than the 2020 Assembly election. The RJD and Congress are set to contest fewer seats to adjust to the new partners of the alliance, including JMM and RLJP.
Congress, RJD To Contest Fewer Seats
- While the Congress is likely to contest 15 fewer seats in comparison to the 2020 assembly election, the Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD is expected to seek nine fewer seats.
- The seats vacated by the two major parties will be distributed among the other alliance partners, including Mukesh Sahni's VIP and the three left parties.
- While 18 of the vacated seats are set to be given to VIP, the remaining six seats will be given to the left parties in their stronghold.
- The alliance is also likely to assure the deputy chief minister post to Mukesh Sahni
