Bihar Assembly Election 2025: The 2025 Bihar assembly elections delivered a resounding mandate for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), marking one of the most sweeping victories in the state’s political history. Riding on a strong campaign and record voter turnout, the NDA and its allies stormed past the 200-seat mark in the 243-member assembly, ensuring an unequivocal return to power for Nitish Kumar’s coalition. In stark contrast, the opposition Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) suffered a dramatic setback, with their seat count dropping to historic lows, raising questions about their future as a credible challenger in Bihar’s political landscape.

NDA Parties And Their Numbers

The NDA’s victory was comprehensive, eclipsing results from previous elections and consolidating its dominance across the state. The final tally confirms the NDA’s seat count at 202 seats, far surpassing the majority threshold of 122. Within the NDA:

- BJP secured 89 seats.

- JD(U) won 85 seats.

- Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJPRV] bagged 19 seats.

- Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM-Secular) clinched 5 seats.

- Rashtriya Lok Morcha secured 4 seats.

"The people of Bihar, with this massive victory and their unshakable confidence, have taken the state by storm (garda uda diya)," Prime Minister Modi told cheering party workers at BJP headquarters in Delhi in the evening after accepting their greetings by waving a 'gamcha'.

Overcoming anti-incumbency, Chief Minister Kumar thanked people of the state for giving a "landslide" victory for the NDA. "People of the state have expressed their confidence in our government by giving us a landslide mandate in the polls. For this, I bow to all the esteemed voters of the state, and express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks," Kumar wrote in a post on X.

Mahagathbandhan Parties And Their Numbers

The Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD, suffered severe reverses. Together, the alliance managed only 35 seats, a sharp decline from previous years. The break-up within the alliance is as follows:

 - RJD was reduced to 25 seats.

- Congress won 6 seats.

- CPI(ML)(L)-Liberation took 2 seats.

- CPI(M) secured just 1 seat.

- IIP also secured 1 seat.

Meanwhile, Other notable parties managed to make modest gains in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025.

- AIMIM wom 5 seats.

- BSP secured 1 seat.

Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), widely discussed as a potential ‘X factor’ in this electionalso failed to make an impact. Despite contesting nearly every seat and running an aggressive campaign centred on unemployment, migration and the lack of industries in Bihar, the party could not convert its visibility into votes.
