The Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) on Thursday announced a statewide signature campaign beginning May 11 from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s native village, Kalyan Bigha. Party president Manoj Bharti, addressing a press conference, said the campaign aims to hold the government accountable for its promises made during the caste-based census period.

JSP workers and leaders will visit over 40,000 villages across Bihar, posing three key questions to the public regarding unfulfilled government announcements. These include the status of Nitish Kumar’s November 2023 promise to provide Rs 2 lakh to 94 lakh families based on the caste survey, financial aid of Rs 1.20 lakh to 40 lakh families, and the distribution of three decimal land to landless families.

Bharti cited a government report claiming that only 2.34 lakh families have received land under the scheme, and among them, 1.2 lakh families are yet to receive ownership rights. The party also seeks to determine whether citizens are being forced to pay bribes during the ongoing land survey process.

“The campaign begins from the Chief Minister’s own village because all these announcements were made during his tenure, and it is important to assess the ground reality,” Bharti said.

He further added that the Jan Suraj Party aims to collect one crore signatures by July 11, which will be submitted to both the Chief Minister and the Governor in the form of a memorandum. If no action is taken, the party plans to stage a protest and gherao the Assembly during the monsoon session.

State General Secretary Kishore Kumar Munna and Jitendra Mishra were also present at the press conference.
