The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase of 430 MBBS seats across government and private medical colleges in Bihar for the 2025-26 academic session, providing opportunities for more students to pursue medical education.
In the government sector, IGIMS, Patna, has received 30 additional MBBS seats, taking its total intake to 150 students. No other government medical colleges in the state have been allocated additional seats.

Among private institutions, Netaji Subhash Medical College Hospital has been allotted 50 additional seats, bringing its total to 150 MBBS seats. Madhubani Medical College Hospital in Madhubani received 100 additional seats, while Himalaya Medical College was granted 50 extra seats.
Additionally, the NMC has approved two new medical colleges and hospitals in Bihar. Shyamlal Chandrashekhar Medical College and Shaheed Prabhunarayan Multi-Speciality Hospital in Parmanandpur, Khagaria, and Mahabodhi Medical College and Hospital in Mahabodhinagar, Gopalpur Sherghati, Gayaji, have each received approval for 100 MBBS seats.

With these changes, the total MBBS seats in government medical colleges in Bihar will reach 1,420, while private medical colleges will have 1,750 seats for the 2025–26 session.
This expansion is expected to strengthen medical education infrastructure in the state and accommodate the growing demand for medical professionals.
