Chief Secretary of Bihar, Amrit Lal Meena, conducted an on-site review of the ongoing construction at Purnia Airport on Thursday, emphasising timely completion to ensure early commencement of flight operations. The review meeting included top officials from the Airport Authority of India, state departments, and the Indian Air Force.
Officials informed the Chief Secretary that the construction is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by the end of August. The development includes the interim terminal building, apron, runway, and approach roads. Once operational, the airport will significantly boost regional connectivity and economic activity in the Seemanchal region.

Meena directed engineers and contractors to expedite work, particularly on the roads leading to the airport. “This airport will not only provide air connectivity to the people of Purnia and surrounding areas but will also open up opportunities for trade and employment,” he said.
Key Highlights:
-Rs 46 crore is being invested in the interim terminal building.
-Bids for the main terminal building will be floated soon.
-69 acres of land have been acquired by the state government for the airport.
-The runway, at 2800 meters, is the longest in Bihar.
-Work on the approach and internal roads is expected to be completed by August.
-The airport will support economic growth in Seemanchal and facilitate easier travel, including for Nepal-bound passengers.

Top officials present during the review included AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Dr S Siddharth, Director of Urban and Aviation Dr Nilesh Ramchandra Devde, Purnia Commissioner Rajesh Kumar, DIG Pramod Kumar Mandal, DM Anshul Kumar, SP Sweety Sehrawat, and representatives from the Indian Air Force.
