A special tableau highlighting women’s empowerment in Bihar will be featured during this year’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26. For the first time, the Pink Bus of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) will be included in the parade, with its steering wheel in the hands of a woman from the Scheduled Caste community, symbolising self-reliance and social equality.
Preparations for the tableau are currently underway at the BSRTC office in Patna, with regular rehearsals being conducted. The selected driver is receiving special training in bus operation, speed control, and navigating the designated route in a disciplined manner during the parade.
Officials said the Pink Bus will be specially decorated to convey the message of women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment nationwide. Atul Verma, Administrator of BSRTC, stated that the tableau will be displayed at Gandhi Maidan during the Republic Day ceremony.
Currently, 100 Pink Buses operate across Bihar, providing safe travel for women, with female conductors, CCTV cameras, and other security measures. The service has received positive feedback from passengers, and its inclusion in the Republic Day tableau is expected to highlight the state’s commitment to social justice, grassroots women’s empowerment, and inclusive development.
