Bihar Sets Up Anti-Smuggling And Anti-Narcotics Task Forces To Combat Border Crime, Drugs And Human Trafficking

Bihar has launched Anti-Smuggling Task Force (ASTF) and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) to tackle the rising challenges of drug trafficking, counterfeit currency, arms smuggling, forest resource theft, and human trafficking in the state. 

These forces will include officials from Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Customs Department, and Bihar Police, focusing especially on border districts, including the India-Nepal border.

The initiative was announced by the IG of SSB, who said that the formation of these task forces aligns with directives from the Prime Minister and Home Minister for greater coordination between central and state agencies. The task forces aim to protect national security, safeguard public health, and secure the future of youth.

The Anti-Smuggling Task Force will comprise the IG of SSB, Additional Directors General of Police for Law & Order and Economic Offences, and the Customs Commissioner (Preventive). The Anti-Narcotics Task Force will additionally include the Zonal Director of NCB.

These forces will focus on identifying and dismantling smuggling networks, strengthening surveillance on border areas and sensitive routes, and improving intelligence sharing between agencies. Monthly joint review meetings will be held to devise strategies and monitor progress.
