Jehanabad Stampede News:  As many as seven persons were killed, and 16 others left injured in a stampede that took place at Baba Siddhnath Temple in Bihar’s Jehanabad, news agency PTI reported. Pandey said the situation was being monitored and things were under control. The deceased include five women, one man, and one child.

A heavy police force has been deployed at the scene. The administrative officials have also arrived. Efforts are being made to identify the deceased.

The accident occurred on the fourth Monday of the holy Sawan at around 1 am. Eyewitnesses, cited by Jagran.com, reported that a large crowd of devotees had gathered for the "Jalabhishek". To control the crowd, the police resorted to a lathi charge, which led to a stampede. As people tried to flee in panic, seven devotees were reportedly trampled to death.

Jehanabad SDO Vikas Kumar said the incident was tragic and all arrangements were in place to handle the situation. "It is a sad incident...All the arrangements were tight, we are taking stock of the situation and then will further inform you about this," he said while talking to the media. 

SHO Diwakar Kumar Vishwakarma stated that the DM and SP had visited the site and were reviewing the situation. "DM and SP visited the spot and they are taking stock of the situation...A total of seven people have died...We are meeting and inquiring about the family members (of the people dead and injured)...We are trying to identify the people (who have died), after this, we will send the bodies for post-mortem," he said.

The incident came nearly a month after a stampede at Bhole Baba Satsang in UP’s Hathras claimed over 121 lives. The incident took place on July 2 when supporters of self-styled godman Narayan Sakaar Hari alias Bhole Baba hurried to collect mud from the path he had traversed.

Uttar Pradesh government formed an SIT to probe the incident and six officials, including Sikandra Rao Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), and Circle Officer (CO), were suspended after it presented the report.
