Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Bihar’s first-ever Namo Bharat Rapid Train, also known as Vande Metro, on April 24 through a programme scheduled at Bhairavsthan in Madhubani district. The semi-high-speed train will connect Jaynagar to Patna, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities.
The new Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) promises a modern, comfortable and time-efficient travel experience for Bihar residents. The Namo Bharat Rapid Train cover the Jaynagar-Patna route in five and a half hours, running via key stations including Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Barauni and Mokama. All coaches will be air-conditioned chair cars, although the total number of coaches is yet to be confirmed.

The train will depart from Jaynagar at 5:00 am and reach Patna at 10:30 am, stopping at major stations en route. In the return direction, it will leave Patna at 6:05 pm and arrive at Jaynagar by 11:45 pm. The detailed halts include:
Up Journey: Madhubani (5:30 am), Sakri (5:45), Darbhanga (6:15), Samastipur (7:25), Barauni (8:45), Mokama (9:24), Patna (10:30)
Down Journey: Mokama (6:58 pm), Barauni (8:00), Samastipur (9:00), Darbhanga (10:08), Sakri (10:38), Madhubani (11:00), Jaynagar (11:45)
Currently, three trains operate between Jaynagar and Patna: Kamla Ganga Express, Intercity Express and the bi-weekly Garib Rath Express. Concerns have been raised that the Namo Bharat train, scheduled to run in the same time slot, may affect these existing services.
While the new train is welcomed, some local residents expressed a preference for a direct train from Jaynagar to Delhi, citing poor road conditions and limited long-distance train options. They also urged the central government to upgrade Jaynagar station, highlighting its importance for both Indian border areas and Nepali passengers.
Locals also demanded new direct trains from Jaynagar to major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Ajmer, Chennai, and Kolkata. With only one direct train to Delhi, Swatantrata Senani Expresspassengers often face difficulties and rely on indirect routes via Patna or Darbhanga.
