Bihar's inflation rate for April 2025 stood at 2.90 per cent, slightly below the national average of 3.16 per cent, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The comparative decline in vegetable prices is cited as a key factor behind the state's relatively lower inflation.

The inflation assessment is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks price fluctuations in 26 essential goods and services, including cereals, vegetables, milk products, pulses, oil, fuel, clothing, healthcare, transport, and education.

Interestingly, the situation marks a shift from last year when Bihar’s inflation was closer to or above the national average.

The combined CPI for Bihar, which merges rural and urban figures, was recorded at 188.2 in April. This means that items costing Rs 100 in 2012 now cost Rs 188.2. In comparison, the national CPI average is 192.6, indicating that the cost of living in Bihar remains marginally lower than the national level.

Officials suggest that continued monitoring of food prices, especially perishable goods, will be crucial to maintaining this inflation advantage.
