BRA Bihar University is set to introduce the semester system for LLB and Pre-Law programmes from the current academic session. The Ordinance-Regulation prepared for this purpose received approval during the Academic Council meeting held on Saturday in the Senate Hall, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof DC Rai. The Council also ratified the proceedings of the previous two meetings and approved a partial amendment to the Ordinance-Regulation for the BTech in Food Technology programme.
During the meeting, several members raised concerns over not receiving detailed proposal documents in advance and the unavailability of previous meeting records. A detailed discussion was also held on the functioning of undergraduate courses in the PG department.
Responding to this, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the department’s building is being acquired, and a separate setup will be created later. All deans, PG department heads, and principals attended the meeting. Principal Dr Mamta Rani delivered the vote of thanks.

The BTech in Food Technology programme, to be conducted by the PG Chemistry department, will offer 40 seats. Of these, 25 seats will be reserved for students from Bihar, while 15 seats will fall under the NRI quota. The curriculum has been formulated according to ICAR guidelines.
Bihar students will pay Rs 12,000 per semester, while the fee for NRI and sponsored quota candidates is Rs 30,000. Candidates must have passed Class 12 (Science) with at least 60 per cent marks. Admissions will be based on a university-level entrance examination, and the programme will consist of eight semesters.
The university will begin issuing institutional email IDs to teachers within 15 days. The decision comes after concerns were raised about difficulties in publishing research papers in foreign journals using personal email accounts.
Dr Saurabh Raj from RDS College also requested that all teachers be provided login credentials for plagiarism checking, noting that many currently rely on external contacts to fulfil this requirement.
The PG Psychology department will introduce a one-year certificate course in Guidance and Counselling, offered under the semester system and priced at Rs 20,000. The course will have 50 seats. Department Head Prof. Rajnish Gupta highlighted that India requires around 4.7 million counsellors, calling the programme a step toward employment generation.
At the undergraduate level, students from the science stream currently cannot choose science subjects as their MDC (Multidisciplinary Course) and must opt for arts or commerce subjects. Council members demanded the removal of this restriction. It was decided that the curriculum would be amended, with external subject experts invited for further deliberation.
