The 10 seats in Gaya district include, Bodh Gaya (SC), Gaya Ji, Tikari, Belaganj, Atri, Wazirganj, Rajauli (SC), Sherghati, Imamganj (SC), and Barachatti (SC). BJP leader Dr Prem Kumar has represented the Gaya Ji seat eight times and is now seeking his ninth term.

Gaya Ji seat is witnessing a high-stakes contest between BJP veteran Dr Prem Kumar and Congress candidate and former Deputy Mayor Akhoury Onkar Nath, popularly known as Mohan Shrivastava. Adding to the political intensity, Jansuraaj Party candidate Dhirendra Agarwal has entered the fray, aiming to turn the contest into a three-cornered fight.

During the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, BJP's Dr Prem Kumar secured 66,932 votes, accounting for 49.89 per cent of the total votes polled. He defeated his closest rival, Akhoury Onkar Nath of the Congress, by a margin of 11,898 votes.
