Amid speculation of a rift within the Mahagathbandhan over the seat-sharing agreement, another crack has surfaced in Bihar's grand opposition alliance, as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha announced on Saturday that it will go solo in the state assembly elections and asserted that it will review the alliance in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren-led party announced candidates on six seats, saying that the party will honour the wishes of workers. Speaking at a press conference, JMM Supriyo Bhattacharya fumed at the RJD and Congress, saying, "We will reconsider the alliance, as JMM workers have faced repeated betrayal and ongoing exploitation."

Listing how the party gave a share to the RJD every time the government is formed in Jharkhand, Supriyo said, "We had urged constituents of the INDIA bloc like the Congress, Left parties and the RJD, which is one of the largest parties in Bihar, to provide the seats demanded by the JMM. In the 2019 Jharkhand election, we had given our support to Congress and RJD. The party not only gave seven seats to RJD, but also made its MLA from Chatra a minister".

Even in the 2024 Jharkhand polls, JMM gave six seats to the RJD and “accommodated an MLA as minister”, he said. Supiyo said that the party will try to win the seats to emerge as kingmaker. "We will fight, win and make sure that without the JMM, no government is formed in Bihar,” he asserted.

"And, after the Bihar polls, the JMM will have a relook at the coalition in Jharkhand," Bhattacharya added. JMM will contest Chakai, Dhamdaha, Katoria (ST), Manihari (ST), Jamui and Pirpainti (SC).

The party also released a list of 20 star campaigners for the elections, led by Hemant Soren. The other star campaigners include the CM's wife and Gandey MLA, Kalpana Soren, Dumka legislator Basant Soren, senior party leaders Stephen Marandi and Sarfaraj Ahmed.
