To enhance transparency and passenger convenience, Indian Railways has implemented significant changes to its reservation system, effective today, October 1, 2025. Alongside these new rules, a comprehensive new mobile application, the 'Rail One app', has been launched to provide a one-stop digital solution for travelers.

In a move to prioritise individual passengers and prevent misuse of the booking system, a new procedure has been put in place for booking general reserved tickets:

15-Minute Online Window: For the first 15 minutes after general reservations open, tickets can only be booked through the IRCTC website or a mobile app. This facility is exclusively available to Aadhaar-authenticated users.

10-Minute Agent Restriction: Authorised ticket agents will be prohibited from booking any reserved tickets for the first 10 minutes after the window opens.

PRS Counters Unchanged: There is no change to the booking schedules at computerised PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counters, where passengers can get tickets as per the previous system.

According to Samastipur railway division's PRO, RK Singh, the goal is to make the booking process more secure and reliable. He added that the use of the new app is being actively promoted at major stations in the division, such as Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Sitamarhi, and Samastipur, to help passengers benefit from these changes.

The 'Rail One App': A One-Stop Solution For Travelers

Indian Railways has launched the new "Rail One app" to consolidate all journey-related services into a single, user-friendly platform. The app is available for free on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store and is designed to provide prompt and transparent services to passengers from both rural and urban areas.

Key Features and Benefits Include:

Comprehensive Ticket Booking: Book general, reservation and platform tickets directly through the app.

Real-Time Information: Get live train status, arrival/departure times, seat availability, PNR status, coach position, and platform details.

Instant Alerts: Receive immediate notifications for train delays or cancellations.

On-Board Services: Order food directly to your seat using the in-app system.

Other Services: Access information related to parcel services.

By digitising these services, the app is expected to reduce crowding at enquiry counters, save passenger time, and enable better journey management, making rail travel more convenient and secure.
