In a significant move to bolster health services in Bihar, the Nitish Kumar-led government is undertaking a major modernisation of the renowned LNJPN Orthopaedic Hospital in Rajbanshi Nagar. A state-of-the-art, multi-storey building is currently under rapid construction at the site, aiming to transform the facility into a high-tech multispeciality centre.

Infrastructure And Modernisation

Construction on the new six-storey building began in 2023 and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027. Designed to provide relief to the elderly and disabled, the infrastructure will include ramps, central air conditioning, and advanced medical technology.

According to Dr Sarsij Nayanam, Director of LNJPN Hospital, the expansion will significantly enhance the hospital's capacity. Key features of the new facility include:

- A 400-bed capacity.

- Eight additional Operation Theatres (OTs) to ensure timely surgeries for both routine and emergency cases.

- Expanded modern X-ray and diagnostic facilities, allowing patients to receive comprehensive care within the same premises.

History And Growth

Established nearly two decades ago in 2006, during the tenure of the Nitish government, the hospital was originally built to specialise in orthopaedic treatment. Over the years, as patient numbers surged, the infrastructure was expanded, including the addition of a separate building three to four years ago. The current project marks the next step in evolving the hospital from a specialised centre to a broader multispeciality hub.

Public Reaction

Patients currently receiving treatment have praised the government's initiative. Pramod, a patient, remarked that orthopaedic treatment facilities have already improved under the current administration, and the new building will bring further relief.

Another patient, Manoj Kumar, noted that the moderniation will not only improve orthopaedic care but will also serve patients arriving from all across Bihar, rather than just residents of Patna.
