25-year-old folk singer, Maithili Thakur, also called the sweetheart of Mithila, has already got an edge in Alinagar Constituency, leading the fight with a significant voter gap. Maithili Thakur is a very popular folk singer contesting her maiden election from Alinagar constituency of Bihar on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

Contesting her maiden from Alinagar, a stronghold of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Maithili is vying for her political debut with victory. Locked in a neck-and-neck contest with the incumbent RJD's Binod Mishra, Thakur stirred a storm in the constituency by promising to rename Alinagar to Sitanagar if she wins.

Maithili Thakur Family Background And Music Career

Maithili Thakur comes from a musical family in Benipatti, Madhubani district, Bihar. Her father, Ramesh Thakur, is a musician and music teacher who trained Maithili and her two younger brothers, Rishav and Ayachi, in Hindustani classical music, harmonium, and tabla.

To help her grow, the family moved to New Delhi. There, Maithili completed school and earned a bachelor’s degree from Delhi University. She first appeared on TV in Little Champs (2011) and Indian Idol Junior (2015). Her big break came in 2017 as the runner-up of Rising Star (Season 1).

Maithili Thakur Net Worth: BJP's Candidate Owns Properties Worth Crore

According to her election affidavit, the BJP's Alinagar candidate, Maithili Thakur, owns assets worth over 4 crore, including her movable and immovable properties. She owns a total net worth of over 4.5 crore.

Thakur's income more than doubled in the last 5 years, rising from 12.02 lakh rupees in 2019-20 to over Rs 28.67 lakh in 2023-24. Her income comes mainly from social media, influencing work and singing events. It is said that she charges anywhere between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 7 lakh for a live gig.
