In-laws allegedly tied the hands and feet of a newly married woman and poured acid on her face over dowry harassment. The woman, burnt by the acid, was admitted in critical condition to a private hospital near SKMCH for treatment, where she died.
The deceased woman was Mamta Kumari, wife of DipuSahni from Chorkariya village under the Turki police station. Police have recorded the statement of the woman's brother, Sanjay Sahni, who is a resident of KurbaniMadhuban. He has accused Mamta's husband DipuSahni, father-in-law Naresh Sahni, brothers-in-law Ritu Raj Sahni and Nitesh Kumar, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law.
He told the police that his sister Mamta Kumari was married to DipuSahni in April 2024. Just a few months after the marriage, her in-laws began harassing her for domestic issues and dowry. Upon learning this, he spoke to Mamta's in-laws. When talks failed, they convened a village council (panchayat), after which the in-laws reportedly agreed to treat her well.
Suddenly, Mamta's sister, Rekha Devi, received information on her mobile that Mamta was ill and hospitalised. When Sanjay reached the hospital, he found his sister Mamta Kumari's face and neck burnt by acid. She was taking her last breaths. Seeing his sister's condition, he spoke to the doctor, who described her condition as critical. A short while later, his sister died.

A copy of the statement will be sent to the Turki police station for further action. Based on the statement, the body was sent for a post-mortem and has been handed over to the family.
