In a shocking incident, at least 85 children fell ill after consuming a contaminated midday meal at Primary School Pokhraira Bichla Tola in Saraiya block on Wednesday. As per the information, a lizard had fallen into the vegetable dish prepared in the school’s kitchen. By the time it was noticed, most of the students had already eaten.
Out of the 100 students present, only 15 children had not eaten when the incident came to light. An atmosphere of panic spread across the school, and all children were rushed to the Saraiya CHC (Community Health Centre).
Doctors referred eight students for advanced treatment to SKMCH Muzaffarpur, while others were treated at the CHC and later sent home. Families of some students also took their children to private hospitals. All the referred children are reported to be out of danger.
Local leaders, including PACS President Rajan Kumar and Rajvanshi Kumar, the son of a former Mukhiya, helped transport children to hospitals. Jan Suraaj, leader Kishore Kunal also visited the CHC to check on the students.
Block Education Officer Manju Kumari confirmed the incident and said, “There has certainly been negligence. An investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken against those responsible.”
