The Muzaffarpur North Region post offices have gone fully digital, introducing QR code-based payments for all services, including Speed Post and Postal Life Insurance (PLI). Customers can now make instant payments via any UPI app, eliminating the need to carry cash or loose change.
This facility has been launched simultaneously in 3,600 post offices across Muzaffarpur, East and West Champaran, Samastipur, Madhubani, and Darbhanga. Postmaster General, North Region, Pawan Kumar Singh, said that QR code payments are available for all services, including parcel booking, registry, and savings account deposits. Previously, this option was limited to India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).

The upgraded IT system, implemented from August 2025, also allows OTP-based delivery for parcels and Speed Post through a 10-digit Digipin. Customers now receive instant digital receipts for all payments. Singh added that cash payments will still be accepted, giving users the choice between digital and traditional methods.
On Monday, dozens of customers at the Head Post Office used the QR code facility to pay for parcels and PLI. The PMG stated that this system has been rolled out across all 1,65,000 post offices in India, making digital payments accessible nationwide.
