Bihar Assembly Election Results 2025: It's Nitish Kumar once again. The trend of vote counting, which showed 74-year-old Nitish is still the tallest politician in Bihar. Under his leadership, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is heading towards a landslide victory in the Bihar Assembly election 2025 by leading in more than 208 out of the 243 constituencies. Nitish's party, Janata Dal United (JD-U) is also leading on 84 seats, against the 43 tally in the state election 2020.
The reemergence of Nitish is the biggest surprise factor of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 as among the top poll issues, his mental health was religiously raised by his rivals, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Tejashwi, on several occasions, claimed that Nitish was hijacked by the BJP and the chief minister was unable to make decisions. Nitish's health issue worsened after several videos of the JD-U leader emerged on social media in which he was seen doing unusual activities.
Here Are The Key Factors That Explains The Nitish Saga
Nitish is set to become chief minister for the tenth time, the longest-serving Bihar CM. Nitish, who earned the tag of 'Sushasan Babu', did not do negative politics. He sticks with politics around secularism, women's empowerment, development, and stability. He is known for eliminating crime, corruption, and "jungle raj" since 2005.
The JD-U leader remained women's first choice. With Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana (MMRY), a Rs 10,000 cash transfer to 2.5 million women just before the elections, it made a significant impact. A series of moves like the liquor ban, the Jeevika Didi scheme and 50% reservation for women in the local body elections instilled confidence in women for the Nitish government.
With the politics of the EBC (Extremely Backward Classes), he successfully countered Lalu Prasad Yadav's social engineering. 'Maha Dalit was formed by Nitish. 'Mahadalit' category was created by the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar in 2007 to identify and uplift the most deprived sub-castes within the broader Dalit community. This emerged as a masterstroke for Nitish as Mahadalit constitutes approximately of 19% of Bihar's population according to a caste survey.

Ideological flexibility also made him relevant. In the last 10 years, the JD-U leader switched four times in 2015, 2017,
2022 and 2024, and remained in power with the support of the BJP and the RJD.
Absence of leaders of his stature in Bihar. Lalu, Ram Vilas Paswan, and Sharad Yadav were contemporary leaders who could have given competition to Nitish, but the RJD founder is not so active in politics and the rest two are no more. The BJP failed to produce a local leader who could match him.
