Patna Metro Update: The construction of Patna Metro's tracks is set to begin next month, with initial work focusing on the 6.5 km-long Priority Corridor from Malahi Pakri to New ISBT. The first metro service will run on this corridor, with an operational target set for August this year. Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitin Naveen is monitoring the metro's progress and has directed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to speed up construction.

Alongside track installation, the process of acquiring metro bogies has commenced. The bogies are expected to arrive within three to four months, by which time essential systems, including electrical, signal and telecom installations, will also be completed.

An agency has been selected for technical tasks like signalling and telecommunication at an estimated cost of Rs 12.63 crore. The metro will undergo trial runs to ensure compliance with safety standards before full-fledged operations begin.

The metro depot, under construction near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Bairia, is scheduled for completion by March 2025. The facility, spread over approximately 76 acres, will house key infrastructure, including a washing and maintenance pit, control room, metro stabling line, electrical substation, auto coach wash plant, workshop and inspection sheds, internal cleaning shed and track units.

The construction of five elevated metro stations along the Priority Corridor—Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhootnath Road, Zero Mile and New ISBT—is progressing rapidly. The selection process for agencies to install automatic fare collection machines, platform screen doors and gate systems has been completed, with work scheduled to commence next month.
