A few days after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Patna metro, a video posted by a vlogger has gone viral, which has reignited the debate on civic responsibilities in India. The video shared by a vlogger named Rounak Agarwal showed one of the stations of the Patna Metro already being blemished by the stains of Gutka.

In the video, the vlogger said, "It's not even been 2-3 days since the Patna Metro started and you can already see the 'gutka gang' has arrived, who have turned the metro stations and platforms with red stains.”

He further said, "Have some shame, people of Bihar. The government is doing such great work of building the metro, and you are making it dirty by staining it.” The video has more than 40k likes on Instagram and has drawn strong reactions from netizens.

How Did The Netizens React?

Responding to the video, one user said, "Put a fine of Rs 200-300 for spitting, chewing tobacco. Collect it efficiently. Make it revenue.” Another user wrote, "If cameras are installed there, the administration should release photos of the people spitting and also make them clean up."

A third commented, "CCTV cameras should be placed in all the areas. Catch the miscreants and make them clean it…" 

A fourth user wrote, “Gutka should be banned inside the metro. Anyone who possesses gutka should be banned from travelling inside the metro.”

Patna Metro: Commercial Services Begin

The Patna Metro opened its doors to the public on Tuesday, marking a historic day for the capital city. Residents displayed tremendous enthusiasm, arriving at stations with family, friends and children to be part of the maiden journey.

On its first day of service, the Metro ferried 5,000 passengers, generating a revenue of Rs 80,000. The initial phase has been launched on the route from Patliputra Bus Terminal to Bhootnath.

All stations along the route were crowded, with people seen taking selfies and children expressing immense excitement at the sight of the new train. The service, which began at 8 am, saw a gradual increase in passengers as the day progressed, with significant crowds from 11 am onwards. 

According to officials from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC), ticket sales exceeded their initial expectations. The ticket was priced at Rs 15, which can be paid using UPI or cash.
