In response to the sudden shift in weather patterns characterised by dense fog and plummeting temperatures, the district administration has announced a revision in school timings to protect students.

New Schedule and Applicability

District Magistrate (DM) Dr Thyagarajan SM has issued an official order mandating that all academic activities in the district be conducted solely between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm.

Scope: The order applies to all government and private schools, including pre-schools and Anganwadi (rural childcare) centres.

Effective Dates: The new timings will be in effect from December 20 to December 25.

Restrictions: All academic activities for all classes are strictly prohibited before 10:00 am or after 3:30 pm.

Exemptions For Board Students

The administration has made an exception for senior students facing upcoming critical examinations. Special classes and examinations conducted for pre-board and board exams will be exempt from these time restrictions and may continue as scheduled.

Background

The decision was taken in view of the intensifying cold and low visibility caused by fog. This marks a shift from the previous order issued on December 10, which was effective from December 11 to 18. Under the prior directive, timings were restricted to 8:30 AM 4:00 PM only for classes up to the eighth standard. However, considering the worsening weather conditions, the administration has now extended the revised timings to cover all classes.
