The Bihar Assembly witnessed intense disruption on Tuesday as members of the opposition Grand Alliance — including RJD, Congress, CPI-ML, CPI, and CPI-M — created a ruckus demanding a halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. The opposition alleged that the process was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise large sections of voters in the state.
The uproar led to scuffles between opposition MLAs and security personnel inside the Assembly. RJD MLA Surendra Ram, who attempted to climb the reporters' table, was physically restrained by marshals. Another MLA, Satish Das, also tried to jump onto the table. Most opposition members, dressed in black as a mark of protest, ignored repeated appeals by Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav to return to their seats.
Despite the chaos, the Assembly passed six key bills within 30 minutes by voice vote. Answers to several questions were also tabled. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was present during the proceedings, which could barely last for an hour across both shifts. The Legislative Council session was similarly brief, lasting just 28 minutes.
In the Council, RJD leader and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi led the protest with party members holding posters inside the House. RJD member Abdulbari Siddiqui’s adjournment motion demanding a debate on the SIR issue was rejected, triggering sloganeering like "No vote ban will work, stop creating disturbances in haste." The session was adjourned within 22 minutes due to the escalating disruption. The second shift lasted only six minutes.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Chaudhary assured the House that no genuine voter would be excluded from the list. “The Election Commission has repeatedly clarified that rightful voters will not be removed under any circumstances,” he said, adding that the government's intent was aligned with this assurance.

Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav slammed the government, demanding an immediate discussion on the SIR process. “This issue directly concerns the voters of Bihar. Democracy is under threat. If we can’t debate it here in the House, then where else,” he questioned, alleging that the process of voter deletion was not in the public interest.
