Bihar BJP President: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political analysts believe that the appointment of Sanjay Saraogi as the state president can benefit the saffron party at several levels. On one hand, it will send a message to the backward classes that the BJP is continuously promoting their leadership, while on the other hand, it will maintain stability and continuity in the organisation.

This BJP strategy also challenges the politics of the opposition, which has traditionally considered the backward classes as its own vote bank in Bihar. By appointing a fourth consecutive president from the backward community, the BJP signalled that its claim on the politics of the backward classes is not weakening, but rather strengthening.

The party leadership believes that when social representation is combined with development, good governance, and organisational strength, its impact is far-reaching. Saraogi now faces the major responsibility of further strengthening the organisation, activating workers at the booth level, and bringing together various social groups.

Social Balance Act

By making Sanjay Saraogi the fourth consecutive state president from the backward classes, the BJP has made it clear that its politics is not merely power-centric, but based on social balance and a long-term strategy.

Sanjay Saraogi's Education

Saraogi, the newly appointed 18th state president of the BJP, is a resident of Gandhi Chowk, Bara Bazar in Darbhanga city. The 56-year-old leader, who received his early education from Saraswati Shishu Mandir, run by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has held various responsibilities in the BJP organisation from the Mandal to the state level.

Saraogi belongs to the Marwari community (Sanjay Saraogi's caste), which is included in the Vaishya community in Bihar. Born on August 28, 1969, Saraogi holds M.Com and MBA degrees. He was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

He joined the BJP in 1995. Subsequently, he was elected as a ward councillor of the Darbhanga Municipal Corporation for the first time with the BJP Yuva Morcha. After this, he was elected as a BJP MLA from Darbhanga Nagar in the assembly elections held in February 2005. He was successful again in November 2005. Since then, he has been the BJP MLA from Darbhanga city.

He has been continuously successful in both the 2005 elections, as well as in November 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. He was appointed Minister of Land Reforms and Revenue on February 26, 2025.

Coincidence Or Experiment?

The BJP's top leadership had appointed Dilip Jaiswal as the state president while he was serving as the Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms. Later, Sanjay Sarawgi was given the responsibility of Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms. Now, the party has made the former Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms the state president. Both leaders belong to the same caste.
