Amul Milk Price Hike: Amul milk consumers will have to spend an extra 2 rupees on every variant of the milk. The price hike will be implemented from June 3. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the cooperative behind Amul, has said that the cost has been hiked due to the increase in the overall cost of production and operation.
Amul last increased the prices in February 2023. The fresh hike means an increase of Rs 2 on all the variants of the milk sold by Amul. With the latest Amul price rise, the new rates for various products such as 500 ml pack of Amul Gold Full Cream Fresh Milk, 500 ml Amul buffalo milk, and 500 ml Amul Shakti milk stand at Rs 35, Rs 37, and Rs 32, respectively.
"The increase of ₹2 per litre translates to the range of 3-4 per cent increase in MRP, which is much lower than the average food inflation. It is worthwhile to note that since February 2023, Amul has made no increase in prices of fresh pouch milk in major markets," GCMMF said in a statement.
Amul further said that a price hike of Rs 2 only translates to a 3-4% increase in MRP, which is significantly lower than the average food inflation.
"This price hike is being done due to an increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk. Our member unions have also increased farmer's prices approximately by 6-8% over the last year," GCMMF said in the release.
Amul as a policy passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and & milk products to the milk producers, it further added.
"The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production," the release stated.
