Bank Holiday on April 1: Bank branches across major parts of India will remain closed to the general public on Wednesday, April 1. However, employees will be doing work related to the yearly accounts closing. Branches in Major cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow and others will remain shut for customers.
The net banking and internet banking services remain active.
According to the RBI's holiday calendar, which is released at the beginning of every year, banks will be closed for a total of 14 days in April. The bank holiday for April 1 is scheduled under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) bank holiday calendar.
Bank Holidays in April 2026
April 1: Most states and union territories (except Northeast states, excluding Tripura, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh) - banks close for year-end account settlement.
April 2: Kerala - Maundy Thursday
April 3: Almost all states except Tripura, Chandigarh, Assam, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir - Good Friday
April 14: Most states (except Mizoram, MP, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh) - Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Tamil New Year, Bohag Bihu
April 15: Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh - Regional New Year celebrations (Bengali New Year/Nababarsha, Bohag Bihu, Vishu, and Himachal Day)
April 16: Assam - Bohag Bihu
April 20: Karnataka - Basava Jayanti / Akshaya Tritiya
April 21: Tripura - Garia Puja
Saturdays & Sundays
In addition to scheduled holidays, the bank branches will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays (April 11 & 25) across the nation.
Furthermore, banks will remain closed on Sundays (April 5, 12, 19, 26) for regular weekly closure.
