EPFO Passbook Lite: The Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a new facility, Passbook Lite, enabling its seven crore members to check their EPF passbook through the member login portal. Until now, employees had to log in to a separate passbook portal to see details of contributions, withdrawals and balance.
These changes are designed to improve transparency, reduce grievances, and simplify access to PF details. However, for a comprehensive view of passbook details including graphical display, members can continue to access the existing 'Passbook Portal' as well.
Key Advantages of Passbook Lite
-With Passbook Lite feature, there is no need to switch between portals, as a single login allows for a quick snapshot of contributions, withdrawals, and balances in a systematic manner.
-There is also faster access, as the load on the old portals is reduced since fewer people are using them.
-The detailed records of the passbook site are still available, so members who want a full breakdown can still use the old passbook data.
PF Transfers Made Easier
When employees switch jobs, their PF accounts are transferred online through Form 13-A. These transfer certificates (Annexure K) are generated by the previous PF office and shared with the new one. Until now, employees could only access it if they specifically requested it. EPFO has now made Annexure K downloadable in PDF format directly from the member portal.
Earlier, members had to rely on PF offices to get transfer certificates, and they could only see Annexure K after filing a request. Now, the member can log in anytime and download Annexure K to verify that their PF balance has safely moved to the new account.

Why this matters for members?
-One can track the status of their PF transfer applications online and then confirm that their PF balance and service periods are updated correctly in the new accounts.
-One can maintain a permanent digital record for future reference, especially for EPS pension calculations.
