Go First Crisis: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to proceed with the petitions of several lessors of the crisis-hit Go First airline seeking de-registration of their aircraft. The court wants this done within the next five working days. Go First currently has 54 aircrafts of foreign companies. The aviation regulator and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) have to assist the leasing companies in getting these planes out of Indian airports. The crisis-hit airline reportedly stopped flying from May 3, 2023.
Here’s What The High Court Said
While pronouncing the judgment, a single-judge bench chaired by Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju stated that detailed orders had been issued to deregister 54 aircraft of the lessors. The high court stated that the DGCA's communication letters issued in May last year denying to processing the de-registration applications of the individual aircraft lessors were "set aside".
“The respondent DGCA will forthwith and no later than in the next five working days process the de-registration applications for the aircraft,” the high court said in its ruling, adding that the order applies to all 54 aircraft.

The order came in the wake of petitions filed by several lessors seeking de-registration of their aircraft by the aviation regulator DGCA so that they could take them back from the crisis-hit Go First. Following the order, the counsel for some of the respondents urged the court to keep its directions in abeyance for a week. However, the judge refused and said, "You find another court to put my directions in abeyance".
Some of the lessors who have approached the high court to file an application for deregistration of their 54 planes are: Accipiter Investments Aircraft 2 Limited, EOS Aviation 12 (Ireland) Limited, Pembroke Aircraft Leasing 11 Limited, SMBC Aviation Capital Limited, SFV Aircraft Holdings IRE 9 DAC Ltd, ACG Aircraft Leasing Ireland Ltd and DAE SY 22 13 Ireland Designated Activity Company.
