Google LayOff: Earlier, several reports claimed that Google had laid off many of its employees in the previous few weeks. And now, a new report from Free Press Journal has claimed that the Sundar Pichai-led company has now laid off its entire Python team to reduce costs. As per the report, Google is planning to hire cheaper workers outside the United States to cut down the company’s costs.

A Social. coop post on Mastodon (cited by Hacker News) contained comments from a former member of the Google Python team, who was very disappointed by the layoffs and mentioned that his two-decade career at Google was the best job he ever had. Another employee shared how difficult it was to see his entire team, including the manager, laid off and replaced by remote workers from overseas. The report goes on to say that it reflects the negative aspects of capitalism and the human side of disillusionment with the American dream.

The report proposes that Google is building a new team from scratch in Munich, Germany. The US Python team reportedly has less than 10 members and was accountable for supervising a major portion of the Python ecosystem at Google. His work included keeping up a stable version of Python at Google, updating thousands of third-party packages, and developing a type checker.

For those uninformed, Business Insider recently found out that Google has cut down jobs in its real estate and finance departments. Finance teams impacted include Google’s treasury, business services, and revenue cash operations. Google finance head Ruth Porat sent an email to employees saying the restructuring includes expanding growth in Bangalore, Mexico City, and Dublin.

Furthermore, Google laid off hundreds of employees across multiple teams in January, including its engineering, hardware, and support teams, as the company ramps up investment and expansion into its artificial intelligence offerings.
