According to a statement issued on Thursday, the government intends to increase the number of post office passport seva kendras from 442 to 600 over the next five years. The Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts have renewed their collaboration to provide passport services via post offices for another five years.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Department of Posts have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue providing passport services through Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs), the statement said.

The MoU was signed by Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager, Directorate of Business Development, Department of Posts, and KJ Srinivas, Joint Secretary (PSP & CPO), Ministry of External Affairs.

As part of this initiative, it is planned to increase the number of passport seva kendras across the country to 600 centres by 2028-29, providing greater access and convenience to citizens and increasing the annual customer base from 35 lacks to 1 crore over five years," the statement said.

The agreement underlines a shared commitment to the effective management and operational support of POPSK, ensuring that Indian citizens continue to receive world-class passport services at their nearest post offices.

The Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) service, launched in 2017, has provided passport-related services to over 1.52 crore citizens, particularly in rural and backward areas, thereby ensuring greater access to passport services for citizens across India.
