Electoral Bond: Megha Engineering has become a matter of talk on social media after it appeared in the list of top donors through electoral bonds to political parties in the last five years. According to data released by the Election Commission, the company is the second-largest donor on the list.
Data released by the Election Commission shows that between April 12, 2019, and January 24, 2024, the company donated Rs 966 crore through election bonds to political parties.
West UP Power Transmission Co Ltd, Megha Engineering's subsidiary, purchased electoral bonds worth Rs 220 crore during the same period. The Supreme Court last month struck down an electoral bond policy that allowed individuals and businesses to donate to political parties without declaration. The court ruled the scheme unconstitutional, saying it would create a potential quid pro quo.
