LIC Bonus Share News: The state-owned Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) board on Monday approved a bonus issuance of equity shares in a 1:1 ratio, meaning investors holding shares in the company as on the record date will get an additional share. However, the record date for the same has not been announced yet; it will be revealed soon.
In a regulatory filing, LIC said that it will issue bonus shares by capitalising Rs 6,325 crore from the reserves and surplus funds held by LIC as on December 31, 2025.
"... it is to inform that the Board of Directors of the Life Insurance Corporation of India at its meeting held today, i.e., Monday, April 13, 2026... considered and approved the issuance of bonus equity shares in the proportion of 1:1, i.e., 1 (One) fully paid up equity share of Rs 10 each for every 1 (one) fully paid-up equity share of Rs 10 each held by the Members of the Corporation as on the Record Date,.." LIC said.
Govt Holds 96.5% Stake
The government currently holds 96.5% of LIC's share capital. In May 2022, it sold 3.5% of this capital through an initial public offering (IPO) at a price between Rs 902 and Rs 949 per share, raising about Rs 21,000 crore.
The bonus share issue paves the way for the sale of more shares of LIC or an initial public offering (IPO). According to some sources, the government is working on a plan to this effect. LIC's share price on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed at Rs 804.25, up 0.71% from its previous closing price.
