Inflation In February:  Retail inflation stood at around 5.09 per cent in February, which is flat as compared to the previous month i.e. January, according to official data released on Tuesday.

Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation stood at 5.1 per cent in January and 6.44 per cent in February. Retail inflation in food baskets stood at 8.66 per cent in February, compared to 8.3 per cent in the previous month, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO).

The government has tasked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with ensuring that retail inflation remains at 4 per cent on either side of 2 per cent.

Last month, the central bank had forecast CPI inflation at 5.4 per cent for the current fiscal (2023-24) and it was recorded at 5 per cent in the January-March quarter.
